    • The Market Theatre

      The Market Theatre, based in the downtown bohemian suburb of Newtown in Johannesburg, South Africa, was opened in 1976, operating as an independently, anti racist theatre during the country’s apartheid regime. It is named after an original fruit and vegetable market which was located there. Its also known as the Old Indian Market or the Newtown Market, which closed after 60 years. The Market Theatre was renamed John Kani Theatre in 2014 after the renowned South African stage actor John Kani.

    • Hector Pieterson Memorial

      Hector Pieterson, né le 19 août 1963 et mort le 16 juin 1976 (à 12 ans) à Soweto, est un écolier sud-africain mort durant les émeutes de Soweto dans le quartier d'Orlando West à Soweto, tué par la police sud-africaine lors d'une manifestation visant à protester contre une loi imposant l'afrikaans comme langue d'enseignement pour les enfants noirs, en lieu et place de l'anglais. La photo le représentant mort, porté dans les bras de Mbuyisa Makhubo, un autre écolier, aux côtés de sa sœur Antoinette Pieterson en uniforme d'écolière, devient iconique à l'échelle mondiale et le symbole de la répression à l'encontre de la population noire organisée par le gouvernement sud-africain et de ses lois sur l'apartheid. Le cliché, pris par le photographe sud-africain Sam Nzima, fait partie d'une série de six clichés et fut publié le lendemain dans le quotidien noir de Johannesburg, The World.

    • Freedom Park

      Freedom Park is situated on Salvokop in Pretoria. It includes a memorial with a list of the names of those killed in the South African Wars, World War I, World War II as well as during the apartheid era. Construction of the monument was by Stefanutti Stocks overseen by Mongane Wally Serote.In March 2009, twenty-four deceased "liberation struggle heroes" were proposed for inclusion to the memorial. Some of the "national leaders" chosen include Steve Biko, Oliver Tambo, Helen Joseph, Albert Lutuli, and Bram Fischer. International and continental leaders were also among those considered for their contribution to the liberation of South Africa or the repressed in general. The continental leaders included Mozambican President Samora Machel and Amílcar Cabral. Amongst the international list was Che Guevara, a revolutionary who fought alongside former Cuban President Fidel Castro, and Toussaint Louverture, who fought during Haiti's war for independence.

      Le musée Nelson Mandela (Mandela House ou Mandela museum en Anglais) du township de Soweto, dans la banlieue sud-ouest de Johannesbourg, est l'ancien premier domicile familial historique de Nelson Mandela (1918-2013), ou il vécut entre 1946 et 1962. En 1999 la maison, proche de celle du célèbre archevêque anglican sud-africain Desmond Tutu, prix Nobel de la paix en 1984, est déclarée monument national.

      Braamfontein (English: blackberry fountain; also known as Braam) is a central suburb of Johannesburg, in South Africa, seat of the Constitutional Court of South Africa and some of South Africa's major corporations such as Liberty Holdings Limited, JD Group (part of Steinhoff Africa), Sappi, Bidvest (formerly Rennies) Bank and Hollard. Situated due north of the city centre, Braamfontein is the fourth-largest office node in the city of Johannesburg containing many multi-storied buildings representing various architectural styles including Art Deco and Brutalist. Numerous office buildings have and are in the process of being converted to residential apartments. The offices of the Johannesburg City Council and the University of the Witwatersrand are situated in Braamfontein. The Nelson Mandela Bridge is a landmark that connects Braamfontein to the city centre, traversing South Africa's most extensive passenger train marshalling yard. Jan Smuts Avenue and Empire Road are two major road thoroughfares that run through the suburb.

      The Johannesburg Botanical Garden is located in the suburb of Emmarentia in Johannesburg, South Africa. The gardens grew out of a large rose garden that was established in 1964 (becoming known locally as the "Rose Garden") and subsequently expanded from 1969 to cover an area of around 125 hectares (1.25 km2). It is administered by Johannesburg City Parks. The Emmarentia Dam is situated immediately to the east of the garden and shares its extensive acreage. One of the main attractions is the Rose Garden with over 10 000 roses.
