Museum Of The Canals

2 Hours

Estimated Time

Interesting but really needs more material or a change of name. There is one floor broken up into interactive multimedia rooms that explore the growth of the city, the building process to erect the canal-side houses, the uses of the buildings, a great model map of the city and some footage of how the canals have been used through the centuries. Once you’re done that, though, you’re done. You aren’t able to take your own time to browse a larger collection and as far as I could tell there isn’t actually a collection, as such, just digital reproductions of maps as the city evolves. As such I’d probably call it the Amsterdam Canal Experience, rather than its current title. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Building itself is beautiful. Don’t miss the rooms on the main floor where there is temporary exhibit space and a wonderful view of the garden.
